We need a whole lot more of Jesus

I believe Jesus heals the sick. I believed first because the bible teaches so and I believe second because I’ve seen His power heal many people. I believe Jesus to be the one and only savior of sinful humanity. I believed first because the bible teaches so and second because I’ve seen His power redeem many lives. I believe that Jesus reveals Himself to those who diligently seek Him. I believed first because the bible teaches so and second because of testimonies I’ve heard and personal experience.

Everything that I have found to be true about life and related topics can be found in the bible. Scripture is our primary resource. We ought to read it sometime. All of scripture points to Jesus as the answer to all our questions. We ought to seek Him sometime.

Living in the Spirit #1

“Now I am going to him who sent me, yet none of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’ Because I have said these things, you are filled with grief. But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment: in regard to sin, because men do not believe in me; in regard to righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; and in regard to judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned.

“I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you. All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you.
John 16:5-15 (NIV)

What could be better than hanging out with Jesus? I personally have never taken a long walk or shared a meal with Jesus, but it is hard to imagine anything better than being with Him.

According To Jesus, having the Holy Spirit living in us is better. So I guess that many of us, if not all of us, are missing out on the greatest opportunity of our lives. If having God’s Spirit in us is better than having Jesus Himself here, then we have a great treasure hidden inside. The key to a full life is not in possesions, self-fulfillment or relationships but in dieing to ourselves so that God’s Spirit may shine through.

Ramblings #57

You know there are a lot of countries who write their dates funny? They would write 29/2/2008 instead of 2/29/2008. Today the whole world is writing the date the same way. Special isn’t it?

Eschatological report – Jesus hasn’t returned yet. Check back tomorrow.

I enjoy life. I consider it to be a good thing. Actually God said it is a good thing, so therefore I am safe in saying life is good. Furthermore it would be hazardous to say that life isn’t a good thing since God has already decreed that it is good. There is no wisdom in arguing with the Almighty.

I am aware that this world has a lot of suffering. Jesus said that in this world we will have tribulation, persecution and various difficulties. These issues do not change the fact that what God made is good. Our creator made us, you and me, for good works. We are to help, aid, assist those in trials. We are to feed the hungry. We are to be a light to those living in darkness. Taking every opportunity to share the goodness of God with others.

Of course, we have our own issues too. James tells us to consider it all joy when we encounter trials and difficulties. Paul, in Romans tells us that God will work all things out for good as we live our life according to God’s purposes. I realize that it is often easier to feel sorry for ourselves than to mature into the man/woman God has made you to be. I have to tell you that if we never mature then life going to be one long miserable ride taking us nowhere fast. We might as well get on board with Jesus and learn to rejoice in all things and enjoy the Goodness of God.

So the bottom line, life is good.

Ancient of Days (the birthday post)

“Ancient of days” is a Biblical expression to describe God. The intent is to communicate God’s wisdom and His rule over everything that exists. God preexisted creation and is the designer/builder of all that is. God is not afraid of what tomorrow holds or of any created thing. He created all for His pleasure and by His will alone do we (and all that is) continue to exist. In the expression Ancient of days we see the eternal glory, majesty and wisdom of our creator.

Today I turned 50. My back hurts and I don’t seem to be any wiser than before. This ancient of days thing only works for God.

Thinking

People don’t know what they’re missing.

As a young christian (I’ve been thinking about that lately) it seemed to me that the church didn’t know Jesus. I mean they understood salvation and looked forward to heaven but they didn’t seem to have any experiencial knowledge of Jesus. I decided that someone should fix that problem. So I’ve spent most of my life trying to show and tell Jesus to the world around me.

Now I’m an older christian ( I’ve been thinking about this too) and it seems to me that things haven’t improved much. The world around us is coming apart at the seams and we seem content to let them. The Bible says we should be and I want to be like my savior Jesus:

Jesus came to earth as a missionary
Jesus’ first priority was His mission
He had time for relationship with His Father (prayer and meditation)
He had time for relationship with friends and family (disciple making)
He had time for the community around Him (outreach)

People don’t know what they’re missing and I’m not sure if they are going to hear. It is time to throw off the distractions of this life and get to work on the mission Jesus gave to us.
