Being Naturally Supernatural
Phil Strout – National Director, Vineyard USA
An easy way to think of being “naturally supernatural” can be stated: just act normal. When God leads you pray for someone you don’t need to change your voice or behavior into something different. In other words, in the natural way that we are in our humanity, we carry on in the works of God. In doing the ministry of Jesus, we pray for the sick, we minister to the demonized, we care for the poor. If you have to change your voice or put on a certain persona to do the “stuff” of the Kingdom, something is missing. One of the distinctives of The Vineyard is be naturally supernatural. Be who you are where you are! Wherever we are the Kingdom of God can break in, but we don’t have to act a certain way to make this happen. We can be naturally supernatural. This distinguishes The Vineyard from a lot of other groups of have certain methodologies for the supernatural.
At Vineyard Christian Fellowship in Modesto we are passionate about the ministry of Jesus being a natural part of our lives. We choose to not borrow authority from affectations or odd behavior that make us look more spiritual, but prefer to look to Jesus. Sometimes a simple prayer like, “be healed in Jesus name,” is all that is needed. We also acknowledge that sometimes healing occurs in stages over time and sometimes the Lord does unusual things in the process of healing people. What we seek to avoid is the process of embracing odd behavior as a way to look and act spritual.
